Sgt. Splendor works from the groove up, fueled by chemistry, curiosity, and serious musicianship. Centered around Kate Vargas and Eric McFadden, the band blends the elastic, communal pulse of Sly and the Family Stone, the raw emotional authority of PJ Harvey, and the loose-limbed swagger of The Rolling Stones into a sound that’s exciting, exploratory, and sharply focused. Vargas delivers vocals with clarity, bite, and an unflinching sense of timing, while McFadden’s shape-shifting guitar work draws from gritty rock, funk, blues, and flamenco, informed by years on the road leading his own projects and touring with artists like George Clinton and Eric Burdon. Live, Sgt. Splendor thrives on controlled chaos, often performing with rotating rhythm sections that keep the music responsive and unpredictable. That approach has landed them on festival stages such as BottleRock, MEMPHO, High Sierra, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, and Olympia Funk Fest, as well as tours and shared bills with Samantha Fish, Fantastic Negrito, Joan Baez, The Nth Power, and Mike Dillon’s Punkadelick.
