“High energy FUNK ‘n Dirty South JANKY SOUL with a sting of deep down BLUES, Gitkin is the new sh$t on the block with this sizzling and worldwide accalade-producer Brian J (of Pimps of Joytime) bringin’ it with style and grit across the continents, the charts and to the evergrowing global audiences… and now here he comes with Gitkin … for one night only … to his west coast home … the Boom Boom Room.”
Gitkin is an intoxicating gumbo of global soul, surf noir, and psychedelic funk, all filtered through a vintage, analog haze. It sounds like stumbling across a forgotten reel-to-reel in a Havana pawn shop or a Marseilles speakeasy—part spaghetti western, part funk exotica, with twangy guitars that slither through a desert bazaar. The man behind the sound is New Orleans-based Brian J, a Grammy-nominated producer (Cedric Burnside, Bernard Purdie, Cyril Neville) and founder of Pimps of Joytime. What started as a passion project has caught fire, with over 300,000 monthly streams and a growing global following.
After dropping three self-produced albums, Gitkin went live in 2022, forming a trio with Palestinian multi-instrumentalist Simon Moushabeck and Cuban-American drummer Washington Duke. The group brings a whole new dimension to the recordings—loose, hypnotic, and deeply alive. They’ve toured across Europe, sold out rooms in Germany, France, and the UK, and shared stages with legends like Steel Pulse and Say She She. Now signed with international booking agency FMLY, the journey is just getting started.
“This project is about space and feel,” says Brian. “It’s where my guitar speaks, pulling from African, Middle Eastern, and South American rhythms but rooted in American funk and blues.” With new singles dropping via Wonderwheel Recordings and a full album due this fall, Gitkin is back on the road in 2024 with U.S. shows and a summer festival tour across Europe. Catch the vibe live—those “expensive moments” don’t happen twice.
